Consideration of appointment to fill Douglas Smith's vacant Councilor IV seat.
Summary and Background
The Council, at the September 14th City Council meeting, accepted the letter of resignation effective September 4th, 2020 from Douglas Smith.
At the September 14th meeting, the Council also unanimously approved directing staff to move forward with advertising to fill the vacancy with an application deadline of November 4th at 5:00pm. This position would be filled by appointment from the City Council until a Special Election could be held on March 9, 2021 as stated in Paragraph (b) of Section 34 of the Hermiston City Charter.
The City has received applications from the following individuals:
- Larry Lankford
- David McCarthy
- Phillip Spicerkuhn
The Vacancy Review Board has asked that the applicants appear, in open session at this meeting, to introduce themselves, their interests and answer questions from the Council.
