MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
Agenda Item # 8.C.

TITLE:  Resolution No. 2189 Naming New Street
Subject

Resolution 2189 naming a newly dedicated public street in the South Hermiston Industrial Park is proposed.

Summary and Background

The public improvements for the South Hermiston Industrial Park (SHIP) will begin construction shortly.  Groundbreaking is scheduled for July 7.

As part of the overall plan for the SHIP the Port of Umatilla dedicated a new east/west street extending westward from SE 10th Street.  The new street is approximately 650 feet in length and services the 40-acre Port of Umatilla property.

The City is proposing that this new street be dedicated as E Cook Ave.  The name is intended to honor Ivan Cook and Vernon Cook.  The Cooks are the owners of the majority of the land in Hermiston's industrial inventory.  Vernon Cook owned the land which now houses the Walmart Distribution Center.  Ivan Cook owned the land which now houses the Pioneer Seed facility.  Combined they have been instrumental in Hermiston's industrial development.  Ivan Cook in particular has been very cooperative with the City in getting the certified industrial site designation for his land and allowing the City to aid in the marketing of the property.  Designating this new street as E Cook Ave will commemorate the Cook's contributions to Hermiston's economic development and growing population.
